ABOUT VIRGINIA LAMBDA CHAPTER

Located in Roanoke County and Salem City, Virginia, Lambda is a fully affiliated chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa. Alpha Delta Kappa is an international honorary organization for women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism, and world understanding.
Lambda chapter was organized February 25, 1961. Members have been involved at the local, district, state, regional and international levels.
Virginia Lambda has been recognized as a “Seven Pearl” chapter for 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

PURPOSES:
-To give recognition to outstanding women
educators who are actively engaged in teaching,
administration, or some specialized field of the
teaching profession.
-To build a fraternal fellowship which will add to
their effectiveness in the promotion of excellence
in education.
-To promote high standards in education and to
assist in strengthening the status and
advancement of the teaching profession.
-To promote educational and charitable projects
and activities, to sponsor scholarships, to further
and maintain worthy standards in the field of
education, and to cooperate with worthy
community programs relating to education and
charities.
-To contribute to world understanding, goodwill
and peace through an international fellowship of
women educators united in the ideals of
education.

Our History

Alpha Delta Kappa was founded in 1947 by Agnes Shipman Robertson, Marie Neal, Marion Southall and Hattie Poppino.
